BA!! Miesta živej kultúry

The loose sequel to BA! aims to map out the now non-existent, but significant in their time, independent cultural areas of Bratislava since the fall of the Iron Curtain through today through an examination of the local cultural memory. The first volume of BA! was published in 2007 by ATRAKT ART, one of the of the founders of A4 – Centre for Contemporary Culture and publisher of 34 magazine. The core of the authors’ “guide” is a direct output of these activities, which have helped gain even more creative users and supporters of the city. Through a diverse sample of artists, we find examples of art theory, professional and semi-professional photographers, creative designers, architects, and much more. In this second volume, we observe the recent history of Bratislava and the establishment of independent cultural spaces through the lens of authentic testimony by their creators and collaborators. We are currently, and in the recent past have been, witnesses to the establishment of a number of independent cultural spaces which play a significant role in the artistic, cultural, and social lives of the capital city’s residents. The research project, entitled BA!! - Places of Living Culture (1989-2016), is an attempt to document this aspect of recent history.
